After a month of gathering gear, compiling reading lists, and writing plans of work, we departed Tucson to set up camp in Mule Creek ahead of the students. One of the challenges of working more than an hour away from the nearest store is being absolutely sure that nothing (or at least nothing essential) gets left behind—we can’t just run out and pick things up. This year, we forgot to pick up datum stakes in Safford, so they’ll have to come up with the students.
