- Still Dusty: Archaeology of the Day
One of our major research questions for the summer is the large depression in the center of the south room block at Fornholt. We are currently calling this the plaza/kiva—both types of communal architecture have precedents in this area. In the kiva fill we found the head of some type of effigy. We’ve been floating interpretations, including a type of cat, dog, or dragon…but the latter seems unlikely.

The effigy looks like several we found at Cedar Basin in Pinto Valley near Globe/Miami, Arizona. Looking at the large cobble construction in some of your rooms reminds me also of Gila Pueblo. There are still some rooms extant east of the main building. You might want to look at them for comparison. Stay dusty.
