– The Santa Cruz Valley Heritage Alliance seeks a Programs Manager:. This is a full-time position for the newly formed Santa Cruz Valley Heritage Alliance, Inc. (SCVHA), which is seeking Congressional designation of a Santa Cruz Valley National Heritage Area in southern Arizona, and whose mission is connecting people to the cultural, historic, and natural treasures of the Santa Cruz Valley through education, preservation and promotion of its unique resources. The selected individual will manage the day-to-day operations and community relations activities of the SCVHA, will coordinate with the Board of Directors and with volunteers/participants/stakeholders to implement programs, and will have a significant role in fundraising. Salary ($42,000-$48,000/yr) is dependent on qualifications. Benefits include health insurance and access to a retirement program. – Reduced Hours, Free Admission at the Anasazi Heritage Center: The BLM Anasazi Heritage Center will adapt to the changing season with a slight reduction in museum hours and the suspension of all entry fees though the coming months. Beginning on November 1 and continuing through February 2007, the museum will be open seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It will be closed only on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. The regular $3 adult admission fee will not be charged until March 1. Minors and nonprofit educational groups enter year-round at no charge.

– Arizona Archaeological and Historical Society Presents a Lecture on Archaeology of the Safford Valley (Tucson): On, October 16, 2006 at 7:30 PM, Joseph Ezzo will present Sojourns in the Foothills: “The Trials of Ancient Human Adaptations in the Upper Reaches of the Safford Valley. All meetings are held at University Medical Center, Duval Auditorium, on the third Monday of the month from 7:30 – 9:00 pm.

– Reminder, Arizona Archaeology and Historical Society Book Sale will take place Saturday, Oct 21 at the Arizona State Museum (south building) from 9 am to 1 pm. – Living History Festival in Tempe Scheduled for Saturday: History will mean more than just a list of boring dates and facts at the Arizona Historical Society Museum in Tempe on Saturday. About 20 people re-enacting characters from Arizona’s history – from the founder of Phoenix to a one-room-schoolhouse teacher – will be in costume and will answer questions about their lives and eras during the free Living History Rendezvous from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
