– National Park Service Archaeological Prospection Workshop Scheduled for 2007:The National Park Service’s 2007 workshop on archaeological Prospection techniques entitled Current Archaeological Prospection Advances for Non-Destructive Investigations in the 21st Century will be held May 14-18, 2007, at the HAMMER Training Center, Richland, Washington. Lodging will be at the Guest House, Richland, Washington. This will be the seventeenth year of the workshop dedicated to the use of geophysical, aerial photography, and other remote sensing methods as they apply to the identification, evaluation, conservation, and protection of archaeological resources across this Nation. The workshop this year will focus on the theory of operation, methodology, processing, interpretation, and on-hands use of the equipment in the field. There is a tuition charge of $475.00. – Two Tribes Merge in Texas: Apache Pass has seen a lot of history, and a lot of Native American history, but not much of it occurred within the last 200 years. That changed Saturday. Two small Indian tribes, the Four Winds Apaches and Texas Lumbees, officially merged during a day-long pow-wow (Native American gathering) which featured an afternoon ceremony just a few paces from the place where Apaches once forded the scenic San Gabriel River.

Archaeological investigations at Arizona’s first mission – Dr. Deni Seymour For the past several years, Dr. Seymour has led the archaeological investigation of the site she has suggested is San Cayetano del Tumacacori, the native Sobaipuri-O’odham village where the first Kino-era mission was located. Learn about the results of her work and its implications for the history of the region.
