Join Archaeology Southwest for the opening of a new exhibit featuring the aerial photography of Adriel Heiesy. Adriel has captured a series of images that highlight the breathtaking beauty of Arizona’s White Mountains and the ways that ancient, historic, and modern people have made a life in a rugged and challenging landscape.
The exhibit opens at 8:00 a.m. on May 25, 2013, at the Springerville Heritage Center, 418 East Main Street, Springerville, with an opening reception at 6:00 p.m. Mr. Heisey will provide a narrated talk about his artistic process and his impressions of the region from his unique aerial perspectives on time and space in the Mogollon Highlands.
If you have not had a chance to visit the new Springerville Heritage Center, you may be amazed at how a small community in rural Arizona was able to adapt a historic but nearly abandoned schoolhouse into a beautiful new museum complex that celebrates regional heritage. In addition to viewing the White Mountain Aerial Delights exhibit, you will also be able to tour the three local museums. The Casa Malpais Museum provides the opportunity to explore the archaeology of an amazing and unique ancient mountain pueblo site, with tours starting at 8:45 a.m., 10:45 a.m., and 1:45 p.m. The Becker Museum highlights the role of the Becker family in the proud history of the White Mountains, and the Renee Cushman Art Collection features a work by Rembrandt and other 17th-century European artists.
White Mountain Aerial Delights will be on display through July of 2013. The exhibition is free and open to the public Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
