ICOMOS Releases Report on Cultural Heritage and Climate Change
The “Future of Our Pasts: Engaging Cultural Heritage in Climate Action” report was released by ICOMOS [International Council on Monuments and Sites] on Wednesday 3 July 2019 in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan at an event held during the 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee. Putting forward a multi-disciplinary approach to cultural heritage, the report is intended for site managers, scientists, researchers, but also to climate activists and policy-makers. Cultural heritage offers immense and virtually untapped potential to drive climate action and support ethical and equitable transitions by communities towards low carbon, climate resilient development pathways. Realizing that potential, however, requires both better recognition of the cultural dimensions of climate change and adjusting the aims and methodologies of heritage practice. http://bit.ly/2xCyqjx – ICOMOS
Profile of Edmund Nequatewa
Thanks to Nequatewa, the first Hopi Craftsman Exhibition in early July 1930 was a huge success. Nequatewa’s role at the MNA [Museum of Northern Arizona] did not stop there. Although initially the Colton’s gardener and interpreter, he came to be recognized for numerous other roles at the Museum, including ethnologist, philosopher, wise counselor, and folklorist. Nequatewa opened a window into the Hopi culture that Western eyes had yet to look through, and his induction as a Museum of Northern Arizona Distinguished Fellow this year finally recognizes the importance of his contributions to MNA and the fields of anthropology and ethnology. http://bit.ly/2xGbMae – Arizona Daily Sun
