Mission Garden Archaeology Day
Saturday, September 24, 2022, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
At the Youth Garden at Mission Garden, free with a $5 suggested donation at the garden entrance.
On September 24, Mission Garden will inaugurate this Fall’s interactive Archaeology Days, taking place each fourth Saturday of the month through spring. Fourth Saturday Archaeology Days are an expansion of the Hands-on Archaeology programs at Mission Garden in past years.
This season, Allen Denoyer of Archaeology Southwest is doing Hands-on Archaeology. This program allows kids of all ages to try out fascinating ancient technologies. It might be etching shells, painting with natural pigments, or throwing spears with atlatls.
In addition, this year, Old Pueblo Archaeology Center will also be represented on these fourth Saturday events, presenting interactive programs about pinch pots, pendants, cordage, and petroglyphs. John Palacio, a local rock art expert, will also be joining this event. He does fantastic rock art reproductions to promote the conservation of historic sites with petroglyphs and pictographs.
