Homol’ovi is a Hopi word for “place of the low hills.” This state park was founded to preserve a series of Ancestral Hopi sites located along the Little Colorado River. Of these villages, Homol’ovi I and Homol’ovi II are open to the public. People lived at Homol’ovi I from A.D. 1275 to 1375, and at Homol’ovi II from 1350 to 1400. The village sites are important for understanding Ancestral Hopi migration in the thirteenth through fourteenth centuries.
Tours of Homol’ovi IV are offered in the fall. Call (928) 289-4106 for information.
